Real-time interpolation systems for environmental monitoring networks

Real-time automatic interpolation of environmental is triggered by the real-time availability of monitoring networks and sensor webs. Although some variables are easy to interpolate, large challenges remain, e.g. how to deal with large but real outliers, how to deal with interpolation errors and probabilities of exceeding a threshold, and whether and how to use the system under emergency conditions. This workshop will present the results obtained so far in a recent RGI project. Participants are invited to test the system and to discuss the relevance of the progress made so far, and jointly try to shape a route for further development.

Date: Thursday, October 11, 2007, afternoon

Target audience: scientists, interested in (automated) real-time interpolation of monitoring network data, e.g. in the fields of radiological research or air quality

Max. nr. of participants: 16, on invitation; if you are interested, please contact Edzer Pebesma

Workshop organizers: Edzer Pebesma, Paul Hiemstra (UU), Chris Twenhofel (RIVM), Gerard Heuvelink (WUR)

Fee: free

Venue: RIVM, building A6 room 219 (Coordinatie Ruimte Calamiteiten) (passport or ID needed on entrance)
