Multigrid
From Intamap
The issue was raised by Dionisis and Ulrich: could (and should) we work with prediction grids that have a grid size that adjusts itself depending on the density of the monitoring network? Please add arguments why, or why not.
In favour
- the estimation errors may be more even (as spatial aggregation compensates for monitoring network density)
- reduced size of gridded files (where GIS permit) and computational savings too
Against
- complicated
- uneven spatial support
- you would have to draw lines around each grid cell to accentuate its size
- not many exisiting GIS support multigrid
- GML3.1 only supports regular grids: we'd need to extend GML definition of grids to work in our Web Feature Service
